Hi, I’m Lynn Gillespie, organic gardener and farmer for the past 3 decades.

I am so excited to share with you the solutions to those garden challenges you have been having.

Based on your age, region, and gardening habits, you have the Type S Garden Challenge.

This garden challenge doesn’t affect you right away. You might go out and plant your garden, excited for the future produce ahead of you.

But then, even before the plants sprout up you might notice a lot more weeds. You make sure to remove them, and notice that your seedlings come up well! But are not growing as fast as you had hoped.

There is plenty of water, and not a bug around, so the problem must be with your soil.

This poor soil garden challenge can be a good thing, in that unlike battling pests, you simply need to treat the soil.

But then comes the confusion about how to fix it, do you take a soil PH test? And then how much money will you spend on organic fertilizers and additives?

Now, the fix is simple, once you know what to do.

The difficulty is that by focusing on this one problem, you might sacrifice on getting the best production possible out of your garden, even with the solution I’m going to tell you about.

I want to tell you some things you can do yourself, starting today.

Before we look at the solutions, I want to share with you the top 4  gardening challenges that  have been experienced by gardeners.

The Top 4 Gardening Challenges

The four challenges including your Soil Challenge include -

  • Type I Garden Challenge -is a garden that is INVADED by bugs and critters that eat your harvest.
  • Type E Garden Challenge - is a garden grown in a difficult ENVIRONMENT such as short growing seasons, or harsh conditions.
  • Type P Garden Challenge -is a garden that does not PRODUCE enough for you and your family’s needs.

Each of these issues are intertwined and can even be experienced at the same time.

If you find yourself focusing on fixing one of these challenges you may find another cropping up. Addressing only one issue at a time might seem like the best option, but it can greatly affect the other 3 challenges.

If you focus too much on fixing the soil in your garden, and getting it “just right” you will find that your plants will suffer. Focusing too much on remedying your soil, and not spending time planning the garden, tending to the plants, and customizing to your environmental needs, will cause a bug eaten, frozen, and small harvest even with the perfect soil.

This can be an endless cycle if you do not find a new solution.

Before we talk about how to bring a solution to all of the challenges you will experience in the garden, let’s get the specific prescription for the Poor Soil garden.

I will give you the secret fix for your Poor Soil garden and I will tell you how the ultimate solution to end the greatest garden challenges at the end of the article.

For an Poor Soil garden, you will need a very specific technique. This will mean a larger investment up front, but the rewards in production will go on for decades afterwards.

Okay, are you ready for this? You might want to hold onto your hats, this will be a radical idea.

You Need to Replace Your Soil. No Ifs Ands or Buts About It.

99% of gardeners have the wrong type of soil in their backyard for growing a successful garden. There are 3 main types of soil found on this planet. Clay soil which is sticky and dense, sandy soil which is too porous allowing water and nutrients to slip through, and loam soil which is a blend of clay, sand and organic matter. The majority of gardeners have clay or sandy soil with no organic matter.

Soil quality is the biggest barrier to higher crop yields and is the basis of most garden problems and difficulties. Soil is the most important component in my farm’s successful High Performance Garden System, and we have several different sandy loam soil mixes.

Most gardeners just go out and dig up the backyard and then plant the garden without any regard for the type of soil that they are planting in. This is the #1 mistake of most gardeners. First off, our back yards usually have the worst soil. This is mostly because of the construction of the house. The subsoil from the excavation is now above the top soil and it is not suitable for gardening. If you want a weed free, easy, and productive garden like my High Performance Gardens, you need soil that the plants can perform their best in. The soil you are looking for is a sandy loam that has a lot of organic matter.

This sandy loam soil  with organic matter is made of three ingredients, loam, sand, and food for the plants. There are many different combinations of these ingredients you can use in your garden. The sand allows for a nice drainage, the loam will retain water for the plants that they need, and the feed will keep your plants well fed without the non organic fertilizers that are so common in gardens.

This soil you will then need to place into a raised bed garden. This will cut down on the weeds and other problems you may experience in the garden.

Then to maintain the nutrients in the soil, you will want to create a pattern of feeding the plants in the garden.

The heavy feeders such as tomatoes, I feed a cup of compost (which can be a free material if you make your own) and a tablespoon of a mineral rich organic fertilizer.

Because you have the Poor Soil Garden Challenge, you will need to be careful as you apply these fixes as doing this will change the balance in your garden.

Once you address the soil, you will experience a momentary relief in the garden. But I have found in my own experience to be short lived.

In the beginning you will be elated to find that the weeds are gone and that the plants are growing incredibly well! But as the season goes on, you will notice big gaps in planting, that could have been filled with crops. The heat is ravaging your lettuce and it bolts too quick to be harvested! And then the shade on your tomatoes is leaving the plants stunted.

Then one day you notice thousands of bugs on the plants, you rush out buying every pesticide you can get your hands on and spray the plants, and in the process damage your carefully created soil.

As you try to balance this, your plants are not producing much, and your family was depending on this produce to  supplement to your diet!

The garden is starting to be more trouble than it is truly worth.

Fixing just one thing, sets off a host of other problems.

So, for the BEST results you address all of the challenges at once.

For this you will need to follow these 5 easy do it yourself steps to get started.

5 Steps to Building a New Garden System

1. Use Raised Beds with New Soil

These raised beds will cut your garden time in half, reduce your weeds and reduce that amount of feed that you will need to put on the garden. This also allows for you to build the perfect soil once. This saves so much money as you won’t be trying to supplement the soil as you go, which can become expensive and time consuming.

2. Feed plants on a schedule

Even with the perfect soil, you will find that the plants will grow hungry as they feed off of the nutrients in the soil. By setting up a schedule, you can make sure to feed the plants exactly what they need, when they need it. No more pouring endless amounts of fertilizers out to your plants. For my heavy feeder plants, I give them a cup of my compost and a tablespoon of an organic fertilizer that contains trace minerals. This is done on a 4 week schedule through the growing season. This technique grows produce with the best taste possible!

3. Carefully Plan the Season

This technique can be tricky for many gardeners. Really what it requires is a quiet afternoon with your garden seeds in hand and a notepad and a pencil. By scheduling crops to follow each other through the garden to maximize all of the weeks you can grow, will be a great way to know exactly how to get the most out of your garden.

4. Use Organic Pest Control and Protection

This is important in making sure that your soil is kept healthy. Many of the non organic pesticides can damage your plants and ultimately your produce. Stay with organic methods and make sure to watch the garden for clues of invaders.

5. Grow with, not Against, your Climate.

When planning out your garden, make sure to find out how many weeks you have, when the average frost dates are and research the average temperatures. This is invaluable information. This way you can choose plant varieties that thrive with those limitations your climate has. Knowing this information also gives you a clue for the infrastructure such as covers to protect your garden.

These five steps are the beginning of installing a new modern garden system into your backyard. I want to help you combine all of these fixes into an organic ecosystem that works in harmony

I have been in your shoes when it comes to a frustrating garden.

Three decades ago, I moved  in with my new husband to his family’s three generation farm. Excited to support my family, I decided to plant a garden. The garden was rototilled and planted, in long rows. And then, the weeds came up.

Then, I found that the bugs and wildlife were feasting on the plants. As I poured organic pesticides on the plants, I noticed they were withered, they were starving from the poor soil. I slowly lost ground in the garden until it was a big weedy mess.

Over 30 years I worked to balance my new garden system.

I know that you have struggled with your garden just as I did and I want to help you to resolve your issues so you can have a successful garden like I do now. I want to share this information with you to begin the garden of your dreams. I would like to offer you the High Performance Garden eBook Bundle.
